A message from : The Choice by Og Mandino

"Why is it that in the most prosperous and vital nation that ever existed, more than three hundred thousand individuals attempt to end their lives each year? Why is is that we are so unable to cope with the realities of our days that more than fifty million prescriptions for Valium were dispensed in this country last year? Why are we forced to treat more than four thousand new mental cases every twenty-four hours and stand by helplessly while the number of heroin addicts and cocaine addicts and alcoholics rises to epidemic proportions? Is this how we must live, dreading the failures and horrors of each day with so much passion that we are willing to escape even if our flight destroys us?

There must be a better way to live.
There is a better way to live!

When we were given dominion over the world, we were also given dominion over ourselves. God is not our navigator. It was never His intention to chart a course for each of us and thus place us all under His bondage. Instead, He bestowed each of us with intellect and talent and vision to map our own way, to write our own Book of Life in any manner that we choose.

Choice! The key is choice. You have options. You need not spend your life wallowing in failure, ignorance, grief, poverty, shame, and self-pity. But hold on! If this is true, then why have so many among us apparently elected to live in that manner? Who would be fool enough to choose failure over success, ignorance over knowledge, poverty over wealth? No one!

In His Eyes
Mary Southerland

Today's Truth
Psalm 139:14-15 "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be" (NIV).

Friend to Friend
It was my first day of teaching second grade. While standing at the classroom door, greeting parents and children, I felt a tug on my skirt. I looked down into the beautiful blue eyes of Sammy, one of my new students. His mother, who was standing beside Sammy, looked at me and said, "I guess you've heard about Sammy. Good luck!" As she walked away, Sammy said, "She's right. I'm dumb and mean and can't read or write."

Lisa was a tall, blonde and beautiful young woman with zero self confidence. Lisa was the family joke because she was always dropping things or falling on the stairs. "Klutz" became her nickname at home and quickly caught on in the youth group and church where her father was the pastor. Everyone thought she was clumsy, even Lisa.

A young wife and mother sobbed out her confession that she had just ended an affair, "He made me feel important and special." A talented singer and pianist, she vowed to never again sing or play because she was damaged goods.

I often hear and see the same prison described by women living in the grip of failure and defeat for one reason or another. I want to share some good news with you. God can set you free to be all He created you to be. A healthy self-image is not rooted in pride and it does not exalt self above others. In Romans 12:3, Paul clearly says, "Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you." Be realistic in your opinion of yourself. Success comes when we learn to accept God's evaluation instead of our own, when we give Him permission to make us what He created to be and when we begin to understand who we are in His eyes. How? Let's look at six steps we can take to understand who we are in the eyes of God.

Step one: Check the label.

I love a good sale, don't you? In fact, a 75% off tag may very well be a sign from God. (I'm still trying to convince my husband.) I have also learned that you can save money in the long run if you check the label. Let me explain. We needed a new sofa -- desperately. It had to be a certain color and style and cost a certain amount. I headed for the nearest furniture outlet, where I narrowed my selection down to two sofas. Both were on sale and both would work in our home. I saw the salesman coming. Before he could say a word, I asked, "Which one of these sofas would you tell your wife to buy?" The man immediately pointed to one of the sofas and said, "Definitely that one." When I asked why he had chosen that particular sofa, he replied, "Check the label. The one I chose was made by a company known for its quality work. The other sofa is a cheap imitation

We can judge a product's potential and value by looking at the one who created it and God does not make cheap imitations of anything. You are valuable simply because you were created by the hand of God. I am here to tell you that God is not mad at you! His design of you and plan for your life is second to none. He paid the highest price that could be paid -- for you. To cower or crawl in inferiority is to say to God, "You made a mistake when you made me." God doesn't make mistakes, friend. He never has to say, "Oops!" We were created in His likeness and are valuable to God. God knows my name and loves me. I am His masterpiece and have been validated by God Himself. Wow! That is quite a label, girlfriend!

Step two: Embrace the plan.

While painting in the city park, an artist spotted a beggar sitting across the path from where he was working. Thinking of God's handiwork in every human being, the artist painted the man as he imagined he could be and then called the beggar to see the painting. "Is that me?' the beggar asked. "That is the way I see you," replied the artist. The beggar stared at the painting and with tears in his eyes he said, "If that's the man you see in me, then that's the man I will be!" God created you in response to a unique plan He has for your life. You can discover that plan by reading the Bible, God's instruction manual for your life. The Bible is powerful and will allow us to understand who we are in God's eyes - when we consistently read, memorize and apply it in our daily life.

Tomorrow, we will look at four more steps we can take to understand who we are in Christ as we learn to recognize our value in His eyes. Don't miss it!

Pup pup sitting

I'm dog sitting this week in Aurora. A little Rat Terrior named Pepper. She's quite cute and very sweet. I got here yesterday and sit with her until Saturday afternoon. I had a fairly nice weekend. Uneventful. We did get some much needed moisture, which is awesome. It rained Saturday night and I actually had the desire to step out onto the patio and let it soak in. I love Spring rain. LOVE it. The squirt was good and we are still working on the potty training. He's so darn cute. Hard to believe that he's going to be 4 this fall... and then 5 next year. And then the year after its Kindergarden. YOWSA?! Where does the time go?

Work has been pretty busy lately and I've gotten to learn some more neato stuff. I actually rehired a couple people and got to go through the New hire process. YAY! Still no word from the other folks. I've decided to just let it go and see what happens. Cause stressing about it was seriously freaking me out.

The house is supposedly under contract and there's another offer out there. Still no word on when Ace has to be out of the house. I'm thinking now that we'll just plan on a move in September unless told otherwise. Which is good because then it means we'll both just move in one swoop.

BIG news - My younger sister, and only sister, has officially moved into her own place today. I was with her for the lease signing and then got to see the new digs. It's a studio, so not too much space but just enough for her to have separation for tv area vs sleeping area. It's perfect!!! I'm very excited for her. This is only the beginning.

Class started last night. This term it's online, which actually costs like... $168 extra. Which I think is beyond retarded since no one has to actually go anywhere. But whatever. It's convenient and I guess that's the price we pay. This is my last class in the Project Management certification program.

On a different note I'm trying a diet for the first time. Yep. It's happened. I reached that point in my life where my body can no longer handle anything I put into it. SO... I went to Vitamin Cottage and got some protein powder mix stuff that has an appetite suppressant in it. I tried it yesterday. Not all that delightful, but it did fill me up. If I had insurance right now I would definitely be consulting my doctor, but since I dont... I'm doing it on my own. I weighed myself today and almost cried. I'm literally the heaviest I've ever been. EVER. It's all in my mid-section and thighs. Which unfortunately I know won't just melt off overnight. It's going to take serious motivation and dedication. I don't know if I have it. But I want to loose this weight. I really really do. I can hardly fit in most of my clothes. I've got two pairs of jeans... 3 pairs of slacks and some tops. My boobs have gotten huge so I can't wear "small" tops anymore. Ugh.

Anyways... that's about it for going ons around here. I will say real quick that my dog sitting has taken off. I'm basically booked for the month of May. Extra cash. Oh yeah....

Peace out peeps.

Warrior Chicks!

So my dear friend, Ames, gave me this book called Warrior Chicks. It's written by Holly Wagner. I finished this book today and feel the need to share some important points that touched my heart and spirit.

- God's intention, no matter what battle we face, is for us to overcome.
- He said that darkness is covering the earth, but that glory of our God will be visible in you and me so that people who are hurting can come to us for answers.
- Marriage is more like each of you coming together with a box of parts. You each bring your box of parts: your past, your hurts, your personalities, your issues... and together you are going to build something amazing. It will just require serious work.
- A warrior focuses on what she is going to . . . not what she is going through.
- We shall someday be heeded and will think it was always so, just exactly as many young people think that all the privileges, all the freedom, all the enjoyments which woman now possesses always were hers. They have no idea of how every single inch of ground that she stands upon today has been gained by the hard work of some little handful of women in the past. Susan B. Anthony.
- Our lives are designed to flourish when we are planted in the local church, the house of God. Because of that, it is always sad to me when people treat the church so casually. The Bible does not say that our lives flourish when we find the perfect job or spouse. No. Being planted in the house of God brings about a flourishing life.
- The house of God should be the most creative, energetic, loving, awesome place on the earth. Yes, it is full of imperfect people on a journey, but it is the vehicle God uses to establish His kingdom of love on the earth. The "church of the living God [is] the pillar and foundation of the truth."
- He gives us just what we need in the moment we need it.
- You and I are to put on the helmet of salvation. This helmet is designed to guard our minds. In the midst of battle, our mind must be protected. Most battles truly begin and end in the mind. The mind is the source for every action we take, every decision we make and every thought that we allow to linger. Every behavior we exhibit begins in our mind.
- Just because we feel something does not mean we must act on it. Getting sentimental about a person or situation can knock you off course. But a warrior is stable enough to be at peace in the storm - a warrior chick is not swayed by the emotion of the moment.
- God asks us to use our words to change negative into positive. Stop talking about your problems, but open your mouth about solutions.
- Hearing His voice brings not just peace but also wisdom. We cannot lead unless we listen.
- Every person should see herself as a leader called by God. And we have each been given a sphere of influence that God expects us to take care of.
- A thought determines an action. An action determines a habit, and a habit determines our future. So what we do over and over and over determines where we will go and how we will act in the tough times.
- True health is not simply how you feel when you wake up each morning. Nor is it a favorable lab, radiology, or physical exam report from your physician. True health is not based on the sculpture of your physique nor your ability to compete in a triathlon. True health is being absolutely the best you can be with the conditions you were given and situation in which you now live. True health is not just the absence of disease. It is empowering our bodies to perform at their optimum level. Only by maintaining good health can we do what we want to do and need to do for ourselves and our loved ones.
- Choosing to survive takes a strong decision, motivation and courage. We must choose not to let the situation or the circumstance destroy us.
- Forgetting closes the door to our past and reaching ahead opens the door to our future.
- An overcomer is someone who uses his or her past to give someone else a future.
- A wise man, in fact the wisest on the earth, said, "If you fall to pieces in a crisis, there wasn't much to you in the first place. Rescue the perishing; don't hesitate to step in and help. If you say, 'Hey, that's none of my business.' will that get you off the hook? Someone is watching you closely, you know - Someone not impressed with weak excuses."

Overall, this was a greatly inspiring book. I feel energized and definitely motivated. Not only to change the way I think about myself and this world, but to change the way I treat everything and everyone. It was great. Thanks Ames. You are my number 1 Warrior Chick!!!

Something I read that caught my attention

I pray also that they eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. Eph 1:18-21.

So I finished reading this book last night. A friend's husband loaned it to be last December. Of course at the time I finally started to read it -I discovered how much I really needed it. Funny how that works out, huh?

Anyways, as I read further into this particular chapter I came across something that really touched me. Therefore, I share.

Jesus stands ready to help us, but His help is contingent on our absolute, total obedience to His Word, whether or not we agree with it or understand it. His help is delayed and His power is bound and His glory is hidden as long as we stand around in disobedience and argue! ... How will you ever experience the power and the glory of God in your life or the life of someone else if you attempt only those things you are sure you can do? If you stay in your comfort zone?

Because while belief is the consent of the mind and faith is a choice of the will, trust is a commitment of the heart.

In some way, God requires more than our intellectual faith - He requires our total trust as demonstrated by our obedience to His Word in order to release the miracle.

When you don't understand why, just trust Him!!

Still figuring this out

So, I am fine with having a blog. A place for people to plug into when ever they want and read up about my life. Problem being that I don't want everyone to be able to do that. So i invited a bunch of people yesterday but I think because of my privacy settings they have to have a password or something. IDK. Regardless... here I am

Dog sitting in Frederick this weekend. Frederick is about an hour away from Littleton. It's quiet and really ... not much of a city. The house I'm staying is great though. Big with lots of windows and literally out in the middle of nowhere. Plus - the peeps I'm puppy-sitting for bought me food. All my favorites :-) It's a nice little getaway. Today we went for a long walk. About 4 miles in 2 hours. With 3 dogs, it was a little challenging at times. But they are so well behaved... it was just a great time outside. Colorado really is a beautiful place. I know I don't want to die here, but I can't deny the magic that rests in the mountains on the horizon.

Tonight I'm not sure what to do yet. I have a scarf that I finished knitting for a friend a couple weeks ago, so I need to clean that up and prep for delivery. I also have some books to read. And I did just complete my FAFSA. Mmmm... solitude.

Not much else going on right now. This past week was busy at work. School starts in a little over a week. I checked my schedule and it's my final Project Management class. WHOO HOO!! Then I start my psych stuff. Lots to look forward too!

Ace is alone with the squirt this weekend. Tonight he has a softball game so the kid gets to sit in the dugout and watch from the side! I bet he is SO SO excited. On that note, working for Raytheon has it's benefits. On Wednesday I got an email that they have discounted tickets for Colorado Rockies games. YEAH! So I called and bought tickets for this coming Tuesday night - we'll have the squirt - and then for a Sunday afternoon just Ace and I. Both games are Rockies versus Padres. And the seats are great. Regardless, the squirt is going to be SO SO SO SO excited. Unfortunately, the weather is supposed to be crummy. But I'll bundle us up good so the chilly air won't dampen our spirits. YAY! Go baseball!!

Also, I really miss my friends. Working all day, school at night and then seeing Ace and the kid are just not enough. I miss my ladies. And granted there are a couple dates coming up, I still miss that time. The chit chat. Sigh. Oh well. It's a part of life, huh?

Oh! So a friend's husband let me borrow a few of his books. One of them is called "Why?" by Anne Graham Lotz. It's a really neat little book and there are some great quotes and inspiring pieces of scripture. Not that all scripture isn't inspriring... but still.

" Measure thy life by loss and not by gain, Not by the wine drunk, but by the wine poured fourth. For love's strength standeth in love's sacrifice, And he who suffers most has most to give."

I'm on the tail end of the book and then I've got a couple really good other ones to read through. I love reading. I used to literally read all the time when I was a teenager. As an adult I've hardly read anything. Until the Twilight series. Now listen, I know a lot of you may judge me, but that damn series is GREAT. I love it. It's a great love story and very ... well, frankly it's cotton candy for the brain. I can't get enough and I even love the movie too. ANYWAYS - reading that series got me back into the swing of things and since then I've been trying to read a few chapters every other night or so from some sort of book. And it's great. It makes me think and gets my emotions going. I am learning new words and just feel... a little more a part of the adult world. I dont know if that sounds weird, and frankly I don't care. Just letting you know.

Alright peeps... I'm out for the night. Peace out. Enjoy your Friday!!

Eh, I'm over it

Ok, so now that I've had a little break from the ol' blog ... it's time to reconnect. I guess there are a few peeps out there who like to read up on my very boring life. Thanks! I love you all! (some sarcasm there:-))

Work: I started a new job on March 16th. Raytheon Polar Services. What that means is, Raytheon is the primary contractor for the National Science Foundation for the Antarctic science program. The contract is 10 years and expires on 3-31-2010. I'm an HR Intern. So far, it's been great. The people are awesome. I've learned a ton already. The commute is about 20 minutes. The pay sucks and it's only part time - about 25 hours per week. However, my supervisor told me this week that the recruiting department is going to need some help soon. Apparently their busy season is May - July. She said that is definitely going to increase my hours. YAY!

Now - some drama. Back in December an old co-worker of mine touched base with me. We got to talking and he mentioned there might be an opening in the HR department at his job. I sent him my resume and then I didn't hear anything for a while. About a week or two after I lost my job at the real estate office, I got a call from a woman that works with my friend. She asks me a ton of questions about school and tells me a job won't be available for at least a month. Then, last week a different lady calls and wants to interview with me. I went in and it went great. Unfortunately she and a few other executive members are out of town this week so I haven't heard anything. But my friend and I keep in touch and he tells me that I've got the job. I'm supposed to hear something next week. This would be a full time position. HR Assistant. Paid. And it's for the (rhymes with schmoverment), which everyone tells me is a dream job. Once you're in - you're in for life.

I don't know what to do. I mean, I know I should and really need to take a full time position, but the folks at Raytheon are so nice. Ugh. Anxiety.

School: I finished up the Spring semester with all A's. YAY!! I'm in the middle of a break right now and then my next class starts May 4th. Online this time. We'll see how that goes. If everything goes according to plan, I will definitely be able to graduate May of 2010. Wow. A time to look forward to.

Ace: So far Ace and I are doing really well. We see each other a few days a week and usually try to make the most of our time. He got a new job and started a couple weeks ago. It seems to be going smoothly and his boss already thinks highly of him. It's a very secure job and quite stable. FINALLY! It's in Arvada, which is about 25-35 minutes away, but that's fine. He likes the people he works with and really... any job is great right now. He's also been asked by a couple friends to do some handy-man work for them. Extra cash is always a plus. It feels a little weird right now just because I feel like we've been in this stressful mode for so freakin long, its like - what do we do now that things are calming down?

Other: Since I mentioned to a co-worker at Raytheon that I pet-sit, I have gotten 3 new clients. Amazing. My schedule is filling up fast and I'm so happy to be hanging out with some pups soon. I really do miss having a dog. So so so so much. Ace promises me that in the next year or so I can get a furry girl. YAY!! Yeah, so the pet sitting thing is cool. I'll actually be hanging with 3 next weekend in Frederick. I get to have a huge house to myself, go for long walks with the pups, read, watch movies.. etc. For 4 entire days. Ahhhh.... a mini vacation. Minus the beach.

Health: My health has been ok. I did have a kidney stone a couple weeks ago. It felt so incredibly good when it finally passed. My body was like - ahhhhhh... relief. Stomach has been good for the most part. Hardly any migraines. I did have one this week. But I medicated myself and slept. So now the thing that's bothering me is this stupid tight muscle in the neck/shoulder area. It's quite painful and debilitating. I can't turn my head a certain way or nod or stretch without it sending extreme pain down my back. I think it's from mousing at work. Regardless, it's uncomfortable. A nice hot bath could be in order.

The Squirt: We are officially on potty training mode. He's now peed and pooped in the potty which was a HUGE ordeal for us. I understand that lots of kids have trained at younger ages and to some this is no big deal. But to us -it's just great. He's wearing big boy underpants around the house now except for nap and bed time. He gets all sorts of rewards. I'm all about changin it up. He's talking like crazy and saying "No" or "Why?" to just about everything. He's getting so big so fast and it's a little terrifying. I still have moments where I want him to shrink back up to that tiny baby phase so that he'll nap with me. Or let me hold him for hours. Now I'm lucky if I get a kiss and hug. Stupid hotwheels, tools and sports. They get all his affection.

Holidays: Uh.... I don't recall how many holidays I've missed on here, but Easter was the most recent. Since he's with us on Friday nights, we had to do things a little differently this year. Saturday morning when he woke up, I explained to him that the Easter Bunny has a brother, Nacho, and he heard that the squirt would be staying with us on Friday night. So he brought a gift basket and hid some eggs. As soon as he realized that - the hunt began. He found his basket and all the hidden eggs. Later on he and Ace colored some other eggs for the Easter Bunny to hide. It was a nice day and I love that he's so creative. It was fun.

Ok, I guess that's it for now. We did have a massive Spring snow storm over the last couple days. It brought some much needed moisture. Although, I will say that I'm not too fond of driving through 5 inches of slush and then having to pull off the road just to clear my windshield. I actually had my scrapper out the driver side window trying to clear it before I pulled over. I can only imagine what other drivers thought. Meh.... I don't care.
