Pigs are cool. You give them an apple and they make bacon.

Alright, so this has been one of the most emotional, stressful and hellish weeks I've had in a loooooooooong time. Let us start with last week. Not sure if I posted about this or not, but my poor 1994 Toyota Corolla died almost two weeks ago. Yep. Something about an engine rod. SUPER! I immediately start planning and ask my dad if he would be willing to co-sign on a loan for me. My credit is shot (thank you person that shall not be named) and Ace's is even worse with the selling of the house. Anyways, Monday comes and my dad backs out. He says he never really said "Yes" to begin with. Regardless, I was devastate. All I can think about every day is, how the hell am I going to get back and forth to work and still share pick up/drop off responsibilities for the squirt? Not to mention... the last couple trips in my car for him were less than ideal. Poor thing was all flushed red and sweaty from no air conditioning and no power windows to put down so he could have a breeze. Sigh. Plan B. SO... after a long talk with my other-dad (aka Garry), I felt a lot better about everything and began looking for something else. Then, out of no where, the dude that got me my job at the govt offers to co-sign for me. AWESOME! Fast forward a couple days and it's today. Or well, yesterday. I stayed home from work to be with the squirt since day care was limited. Normally the situation is great! I get an entire day with the kid to play, read and have fun. But not this Friday. Oh no. He has the swine flu. Yep. H1N1. Ugh. Real mom took him to the doctor's office on Wednesday and the idiot nurse completely ignored his symptoms and sent them home with nothing. This time however, I take him in, get to see the real deal and he says - yep, it's more than likely the flu. People, I can't express to you how miserable this poor little guy has been. He doesn't want to walk, stand, sit, pee or really anything. He lounges on the couch watching Cars over and over again. Thank God for G-rated movies and drinks periodically from his sippy. All the while maintaining an average fever of about 100. Of course for the dr appt it was 103.6. As a parent, I feel completely useless and helpless. This evening I tried all sorts of stuff and I'm not really sure what worked. I do know that he did finally agree to go to sleep about 45 minutes ago. I sure hope Saturday is a LOT better.

Ok, back to the car situation. So I get to the dealership where I found this neato little Scion. Yes, I absolutely dispise their shape/design. BUT it had everything I need or want. Literally spent 3 hours there only to end up walking away from the deal. Now, I'm awake and it's almost 5am. I can't stop thinking about what to do. But I calm myself by remembering that I'm going to Portland, OR in a week. YEP. ALONE. So I won't even need a car for a week. If I can just make it this next week... it will all work out, right? It has too.

Work has been quite stressful as well. I don't know if it's the combination of being busy there and preoccupied with the car situation or what... but I almost had a couple panic attacks. The OPF (official personnel files) kept piling up and I probably corrected every action I coded at least twice. Yes, I'm learning. But being a perfectionist sort of sucks sometimes. Anyways... it's been nuts. This training in OR better explain some stuff cause I'm tired of just doing things because - this is how it's done. I want to know WHY.

I miss my friends. I feel like I haven't seen them in forever. My family is basically non-existent right now. I'm sad, disappointed and feel a little lost. A few friends have said to me, "Don't worry, this happens to everyone. We just don't talk about it because we don't want to relive the miserable experience." Yay. That's encouraging.

P.S. I love Jim Gaffigan.

What the HECK is biting me?

Last week the squirt and I went to the pool at our new place Tuesday night and Friday night. It was hot enough and the water was wonderfully refreshing. What I didn't know at the time was that I was being bit by something. I have over 15 red bites on my left hip area and torso. It's nuts! And I can't figure out what it was. I've put cream on them and taken stuff but they are still there. How long do these things stay around? I feel nasty. Ick.

Um. On another note this past weekend was fun and interesting. Saturday morning we took the squirt to Splash water park. It was really fun and he enjoyed it so much that he's asked when we are going back. Pics will be on facebook later. It's an awesome place for little kids. After that we all came home and napped. Ah... time in the sun. Then I got up and headed to a client's house. I was there to clean and sort of care for their two dogs that evening. Well, I ended up cleaning for 4 hours. I seriously had no idea what I was getting myself into. Sure I had been to their house, but I never really pay attention to the fine details when I'm dog sitting. I focus strictly on the dogs. Well, this time I focused on the house. It's a simple little condo that is all cute and cozy. Only when you start analyzing every detail you realize how many square feet are really there. LOTS of floors. Hardwood. I hate hardwood floors. I know that the majority of the population loves them, but as a cleaner... I can't stand them. I can see every tiny spec of dirt and hair. It drives me nuts! Anyways... after spending 4 hours cleaning and dripping sweat all over the place, I put the dogs in my car. Now, for those who don't know - I drive a 1994 Toyota Corolla. No power locks. No power windows. No air conditioning. It's as basic as basic gets. And for the last 10 years it has run great. Well, I put the two dogs in my car and rolled the windows down so they could hang their heads out. A favorite past time of most dogs. Except that night I was hungry from not having eaten since 11 am. I go to Good Times. It's a great little fast food burger joint that has quality food. I pull up and begin to place my order when out of the corner of my left eye I notice a little bunny hopping around. I wasn't the only one who noticed. Both dogs literally hop out of the car windows and proceed to chase this damn rabbit around Good Times. I'm screaming at them by this point and apologizing to the gal taking my order. She says it's fine. Of course it's NOT fine. Cheap entertainment for her Saturday night. Glad I could give someone some laughs because I was shaking. Eventually I get the dogs back into my car and roll the windows up. Mind you, I'm still hot from cleaning and NO air conditioning. No gentle breeze blowing in the wind. Just hot dog breath. I took them to the dog park, let them pee, poop, sniff butts and then we were on our way. I dropped them back at the house and came home. I then proceeded to go to my happy place. Ace ran me a fabulous bath, I put my beach sounds on, turned off the lights, lit some candles and soaked for about a half hour. Oh. And I heavily medicated myself so I wouldn't think about what happened.

Sunday was a little less hectic. I drove up to Lafayette and babysat two of my favorite kids. I had a great time with them. I just love kids. They are so... real. Anyhoo... it was a great way to spend my Sunday afternoon. Then I drove over and picked Ace up from T'Dog's house. Of course he had wounded himself on their bike ride. An MRI will soon tell us if he ripped his MCL? Yeah. Then yesterday and today I had training for work. FLSA. Sounds like fun, huh?

Wednesday night I get to have fabulous pizza with one of my ladies. Thursday night I'm going to veg in front of the tv and watch a movie. Friday night we have the squirt and start all over again.

The new place is still great. We've got art up on most of the walls. Boxes are unpacked. Not surprising since I can't stand to have anything in boxes for more than a few hours. It feels nice. Settled. The drive to work isn't bad. About the same as before. We are on the second floor, which for the most part hasn't been a problem. However, I don't think I've posted about this... but the neighbors directly above us appear to be on the opposite schedule as us. At around 9:30 pm every night a banging/knocking/drumming sound starts. It's inconsistent but lasts until the early hours of the next morning. And it's so loud that it wakes me up from sleeping. That's a pretty loud knock. At first Ace didn't believe me. He thought I was hearing things. Until the other night. He heard it and says to me, "what the hell was that?" I said... uh, that dear is the knocking I've been telling you about." Well today I wrote a complaint to the management and asked what the protocol for this type of stuff is. Do I confront them directly? Leave a nice little note on pretty stationary on their door? Or do I call the cops and have an officer politely ask them to stop making whatever noise it is. Whatever. Part of living in an apartment. I know the drill.

Um. Yeah. It feels nice that things are finally settling down. I'm less anxious and have more time to think about important stuff. Like reading positive, uplifting Christian books... making cards for people... and knitting. I still haven't finished my sock. But I will, people. Oh, I will.

The crayzee week is over!

One week ago today we moved into our new place. What's funny is that the peeps that helped us didn't think all our stuff would fit. But it did. ALL of it. BOOYA!!!

It's a 2BR, 2BA 1,022 sf. We got to bring my washer and dryer from the house and are renting a garage for Ace's massive car - the 1962 Chevy Impala. I actually got to see him drive it and everything. It was awesome. The house is SOLD. SIGNED. DELIVERED. I even had a dude come by and pick up a huge pile of trash/junk in the front yard. We vacuumed everywhere... stain treated the carpets... etc. (sigh)

I took Tuesday off from work to stay home and organize a bit. I could literally barely walk and was up at 3:30am that day. Couldn't sleep, obviously. Thankfully Ace stepped up BIG time and helped organize. It is literally the first time ever that I had help organizing a house. It was great. Now, art is on the walls... dishes are in the cabinets and for the most part we can enjoy our space. The squirt's room is so cute. I love it. I bought him this little race track rug and a big boy comforter. Ace is putting art up on the walls and he has his basketball hoop thingy in there. It's definitely a boy's space. Which is what it's supposed to be. Our room is very neutral and clutter free. I am picking up this print I've been wanting for a long time in a couple weeks. It's a Van Gogh. Huge. Beautiful. I can't wait. The bathrooms are clutter free as well. The walls are white, which is boring, but it works for us because we do have so much art. And our laundry room is HUGE so we've got some extra storage action going on in there. The cats seem happy. They roam around and lay in the middle of the floor. Since the weather is nice in the evenings we've been keeping the sliding glass door open. They go out onto our patio and check stuff out. Did I mention we are on the second floor? Well, we are. It's not too bad. The bedrooms are fairly large and our closets are enormous. Which is good cause I need the space:-)

Work is still busy. Today and tomorrow are a little stressful because all but two of us from the team are gone. Which means that I have no one to ask questions to all day. It's like, I was there for 8 hours today, but I feel like I hardly did anything. I did bring in more art. My cube area looks like a gallery by now. Ha. Oh well. It's comforting for me and others don't mind.

I am done with school till November 3rd. I got an 89.64 in my last class. My first B in two years. Whatever. I did a good job and learned a lot of neat things. Social Psychology is very interesting.... can't wait for what the next classes bring or stir up.

I guess that's it for now.

MOVING TIME!!

Gosh, it feels like forever since I wrote something. And I meant to write a blog post a little over a week ago, but completely forgot. Busy as usual.

Growing up it feels like my sister and I were always moving. I know that for the majority of the population moving is dreaded, however I don't really mind it. I like change and I definitely like decorating, making things different. I see moving as a means to do just that. I get to purge all sorts of crap I don't need and organize the stuff I'd like to keep. Overall, it's not a bad process. But... I do hate the actual moving things around part. I like letting the men do the heavy lifting while I just point and say, "Yep - right there is great. Thank you!"

Work has been nuts. Seriously. I have done so much stuff in the last few weeks yet I feel like I've hardly made any progress. There's just soo much to do! AND the most exciting news of the week - I AM GOING TO PORTLAND, OR!!!!!!!! YAY!! Originally I was supposed to attend training in Kansas City. Blah. Boring. Don't like Kansas. Well, apparently neither do a lot of other people and the class was canceled. Now, I am officially going to Portland. Plane tickets - CHECK! Hotel reservation - CHECK! This is one of those cities on the West coast that I have always wanted to visit. Especially so after visiting Seattle last November. I get to be in this city Sunday afternoon all the way through Friday afternoon. Alone. I can not wait. It's going to be awesome. And while sure... some might complain about being in a big city all alone, I WILL NOT. I love the idea. It's going to be fabulous. Anyways... yeah, so work has been really busy. I'm coding and initializing background investigations. It's cool.

School is DONE. OVER. At least for right now. This past Tuesday I sent in my final paper, submitted my last assignment and clicked send. Now, I wait for the instructor to post our grades. Have I mentioned that I'm not a patient person? Yeah... so the suspense is killing me a little. As of right now, I am 1/2 a point from an A. If I get a B, it will be the first one in like, two years I think. Which is fine I guess... it just will push me to work harder when the next class comes. OH! Did I mention that I'll get college credit for this training I'm attending in Portland? Yep. Government. Ah... I'm a fan now.

Home. So tomorrow we load up the truck. Thankfully we have one man with muscles coming and a girlfriend of mine. Between the four of us I don't think it will take that long. Then Monday we have to wait till the leasing office opens- 10am - to sign our lease. Then, we unload. My sister is helping us with that, so it might take a little longer. I am so excited, I can't even begin to express how much really. I keep looking at the floor plan and trying to figure out where stuff is going to go. And do we have too much stuff? What will we do with extra stuff, etc.? BLAH. I am so glad we took the day off. And I will more than likely feel ill on Tuesday and have to call in. (Cough, cough).

So we had the squirt last night. We are doing a rain check for our normal Tuesday night since we'll have just moved and I'm not confident his room will be ready yet. Which means we won't see him for a week. I already miss him. And I'm a little angry. Why? Because he now calls his step-dad, Dad. And I asked why he called him that and he said because he wants too. Well, I want to tell his mommy that he calls me mom sometimes and see how she feels about it. I always correct him, telling him "No, I'm Mimi. Your momma is mom." He knows who I am. But it just irritates me that he's calling his step-dad, Dad. I don't think that's right. I never ever called any of the father figures in my life dad. My dad is my dad. Period. It's not like calling any of them by their name diminished the role they had in my life at the time... so I just don't understand it. Am I weird for feeling this way?

Anyways... its raining here again. I love the rain. It's so cleansing. And the more moisture the merrier!! Ok. I guess that's all for now. Just a matter of hours now...

Catching up

It's not that I don't have other things to do at the moment, because I certainly do - BUT I felt that it was important to update the blog. I've discovered a few relatives out there actually read up about my life. YAY! Here's the latest.

Work: Man, while the government sure does take a long ass time to do a lot of things, my job is not one of them. It is "rush rush rush!!" every day of the week. And really, in all fairness, there are only so many people to do what needs to get done. Overall, I think I've learned to respect the institution a little more. Sure I'm impatient and don't like waiting, but now that I'm on the other side of actually doing - I want to say to some people "Gimme a break! HR is short handed. We need you to chill and wait." Regardless I still love my job. It's awesome. While I'm not sure that I'm actually using HR stuff I've learned yet, I've definitely gotten to use some Project Management skills. Who knows.. maybe after I graduate from CCU I'll go on and get a masters in something. Project Management? Eh... we'll see.

School: This coming Wednesday (July 15) is our last class. We have to give a 5-10 minute presentation. I chose to do mine on the movie 12 Angry Men. I basically get to dissect the movie and point out all the Social Psychology stuff we've learned over the last 5 weeks. I've actually seen the movie several times, the original one, and it's a good flick. After this class is over I have a break till October I think. Which is nice. I need some down time to not worry about school. Writing assignments, threaded discussions, quizzes and 4 hours in one night is a little much with everything else going on. But - I've been busier. The material is super interesting though. Last week we talked about Aggression. Now, aggression is a touchy subject for me. I consider myself a pretty aggressive person at times. At work I've been told that I'm soo aggressive or too assertive. Whatever people. I'm just trying to get the job done. I wasn't hired to make someone else feel better about themselves. Anyway - aggression. So yeah, this lead to what motivates aggression and then that lead into prejudice and discrimination. Well, this is something else that I've had a little bit of experience with over the years. For one, growing up in hick-ville North Carolina didn't help. Nor did it help that my own grandparents were extremely racist. But, throughout it all my mom always taught my sister and I that everyone was equal. That we are not better than ANYONE else nor is anyone better than us. It seemed easy enough to understand and so we had a fairly wide range of friends. I actually remember when we moved to FL. There were NO black kids at my middle school. NONE. And the white kids were mean and snotty. All I wanted was a black kid to be friends with. It never happened of course because I was living in the oldest/whitest capital city in Florida. So what I discovered in class the other night is that there is whole other range of prejudice and discrimination that I've never even had to deal with or worry about. A gentleman in class is from Malaysia. He told us that the lower 3 provinces of the country are literally killing people that aren't Muslim. I was shocked. I sat there staring at him with my mouth open not sure of what to do or say. And really, I shouldn't be all that surprised. People are killed because of their faith every day. I guess I just want to think that we've grown from that and have learned to let people believe in what they want. BOY, AM I DUMB?! Anyways, it just opened my eyes to something that I never really put much thought into. And now every day I am thinking about it. And I hate that people are dying because they don't look a certain way or believe in the same thing. It's horrifying really.

The other issue that got brought up is violence in the media. Studies have shown that the more violence that is viewed, the less people react to a violent situation. Because of all the violence on tv and in movies, our society has become de-sensitized. Isn't that horrible? There was actually a case in 1938 where a woman was stabbed to death on the sidewalk outside of her home by a man she did not know. 38 people stood by and did NOTHING. NOTHING!! And that was in 1938. Just think of all the crap that's out there today. It's disgusting really. Ugh.

So part of why this is so interesting to me has to do with the squirt. He is going to be 4 years old in November. 4!! I can't believe how quickly the time flies. Well, a weekend or two ago we are playing with his legos and he builds a "gun". He points it at me and makes the sounds of a play gun. My sister was there too and thankfully she was as shocked as I was. Where does he learn that? We don't know him anything with guns? What is the right age for a child to play with guns? Toy ones of course, but still. He has 2 squirt guns now. Now, I grew up with guns in the house so I've never been afraid of them or feared them in any way. I learned at a very young age to respect a gun as a weapon and tool for means of protection. Not for pleasure. I know there are people who enjoy shooting random objects. I'm not one of them. I've done it. It was ok but didn't really get the blood pumping. Anyways... so what do I do now? How do I tell my step-son, "It's not ok to point a lego gun at Mimi and pretent to shoot her?" Cause then am I taking away his fun? UGH! This is stuff I didn't even think I'd have to deal with yet. He's too little!!

Moving on...

Life: So we move in 2 weeks. The days are flying by and I feel so disorganized. There's still so much to pack and of course I want to go through everything in case something needs to be purged. I love purging. It makes me feel better to get rid of something I don't need or want and give to someone else who might use it. Recycling basically. I love it. Anyways, of course these next couple weeks are going to fly by. And here's something to make you laugh. I have seriously signed up to dog sit 6 dogs this coming weekend. YEP. 3 are going to be at the house with us and the other 3 I'm just checking in on. But still - lots of doggy action. Hee hee... I sure do love them though. In addition to the dogs this weekend we actually get to have the kid with us Tues - Sat. YEP. Baby-Momma is heading out of town and so we get to have him. I can't wait! He's at that age where since he's talking all the time he says, "I love you Mimi" and "Mimi, will you read with me?" on a regular basis. It's awesome. I'm hoping to work it so that I get to stay home with him and daddy on Friday for at least half a day. We'll see.

Um. Ace and I are doing well. I think we are both just really excited for the move and this being our first real place to call "ours". The location is amazing so that's a huge plus too. It's really close to the light rail so who knows.. maybe I'll be saving money on gas by taking that and crossing over to the bus for a ride to work. Anything to save a buck, right? RIGHT!! Oh, did I mention that I got a FREE RTD pass through the government? Yep. It's awesome. I love it.

So now that school will be over after next week I am hopefully going to finish some knitting projects. I have a pair of socks that I've been working on since, literally, January 2008. For myself. I am determined to get them done so I can wear them this fall. I also just found a fabulous pattern for a scarf so I think I want to make my best friend, the princess, a gift for her new climate. YAY D.C.!! I'm also really motivated to sew right now. But I need to have the sewing machine serviced first. Then I think I'd like to attend a basic sewing class somewhere. It's been ages since I sewed and I don't really remember stuff. It's not like riding a bike.

I can't really think of much else. Health wise I'm doing ok. Still trying to figure out the damn migraines. But you know what's funny?! Ever since I saw my stomach Dr last year and he diagnosed me with IBS... I have hardly had any issues. Seriously. I have these fabulous little green pills to pop any time I start to feel a horrible upset stomach coming on, but I've hardly had to use them. It's awesome. YAY! Now if only my stupid head would work that way. Ugh. Hormones. Also, still on the chunky side for my standards. Another thing I'm hoping to accomplish once we move - get into a routine of working out. I actually crave it right now, but with my busy schedule I'm pooped out by the time I have 20 minutes to do something. I'd rather nap instead. Have I ever mentioned how much I love naps? They are fabulous.

Anyhoo... still addicted to Twilight. Damn that series. Still trying to watch at least 1 movie a week. Nothing good enough to report. If I haven't mentioned it before, run out now and listen to something by Ray LaMontagne. He's lovely. I say that as I have Outkast playing on the iPod. LOL... oh well. I do love all kinds of music.

That's it for now. Peace peeps.

We are moving!!!

YAY! So the house finally sold. Of course it's about freakin time. Everything has to be out of the house by Thursday July 30th so we are moving the Sunday/Monday before. It's going to be a lot of work in a short amount of time, but I'm hoping that some peeps can help us out. Hoping.

Work is still great. I'm super busy and learning so much every day. Tomorrow I have to be there at 6:30 am. We have 6 new people starting and so I get to help do EOD paperwork. I like that part a lot. Getting to chit chat with people and learn about their jobs. It's neat.

School is cool. This class is making me think about a lot of things I hadn't before.

K. Computer / blog is acting up so I'll post again later.

Questions?

Peace!!!

Chillin like a villin on a Sunday

As of Friday I am dog sitting in Centennial. 3 pups that are my friend's babies. Friday was uneventful. We just hung out and went to bed late. Saturday we attempted to visit the dog park, but a thunderstorm chased us out. Stupid rain. And the thing is, I know we need the moisture. But this every day full on storm warning stuff is a little nuts. It got old a couple weeks ago. Blah. But today we got up, had breakfast and prepared for the Chatfield Res. Thankfully, my friend who got me the job at the USGS agreed to meet me there with his two dogs. To explain how massive this place is... I can't even think how to describe it. It's a state park. HUGE. The main attraction is the reservoir, which was completely full today of boaters and warm weather enthusiasts. And oh my gosh was the dog park nuts. There was literally dog traffic jams all over the place! But the dogs ran and swam and played. It was great. And I got some color on my face! I'm trying hard to maintain a tan on the upper half of my body. Not tan like normal people, but tan for my standards. LOL.

My new class started last Wednesday. We had an interesting first night. We talked about the different types of social psychology. One of the topics that got me so heated was when our instructor showed a video clip from a popular network tv show, "What would you do?". It's basically a show that exposes the true nature of our society which is very individualistic and self centered. It's so interesting to me how when something bad OR good happens, the majority of the population turns a blind eye. For example... in this particular video 3 kids were vandalizing a car in the parking lot of a local state park. TONS of people were jogging, walking, driving through and only 1 person called 911 and only 1 person stopped to actually say something to the boys. When the crew asked a lady who didn't do anything why she walked on, her response was because she had gotten involved before and lost hours at work because of a court date. This infuriates me! WHAT IF THAT WERE YOU!???? Why don't people want to help out their neighbors? Because they are afraid? Afraid of what? Of helping out another human being? UGH. This disgusts me. A good chunk of people who read this blog are aware that my mother was a victim of domestic violence. I WITNESSED that violence. And no one ever did a damn thing! It's sickening really. How we just go about our lives and pretend like we didn't just see someone hurt someone else. Or try to break into a car. And this goes for the good as well. Lots of people help out those in need, homeless... elderly... etc. But those stories hardly ever make it on the news.

Anyways. I think I'm going to like this class. It makes me think and makes me want to LEARN more.

My first week at the USGS was great. I learned how to do so many things. Of course remembering it all right now isn't going to happen. I'm already excited for week 2. And I picked out my insurance stuff on Friday. Which is awesome! I'll be covered on the 21st. I know it sounds weird, but I love having insurance. It just makes me feel more secure. And this job is all about security!

Um... anyways. More solo time equals regular blogging! Wow. And it's almost my bed time. Geeze. Well, have a great week peeps!
